Co-op Chilled Distribution Centre works 24/7 for bank hols


Colleagues at Central England Co-operative Chilled Distribution Centre have been working around the clock to ensure stores are stocked full of everything customers need to relax and enjoy the August bank holiday.

As families get set for the holiday weekend, a dedicated team of over 130 colleagues at the Society’s 42,000 sq ft Chilled Distribution Centre, in Leicester, have been working around the clock to ensure shelves at its 266 stores across 16 counties will be well stocked with everything from salads to barbecue favourites and summer berries.

In the last six weeks alone, the Chilled Distribution Centre, which operates 364 days of the year to receive, pick, assemble and deliver refrigerated and frozen foods has dealt with: 13,734 bags of mixed leaf salad, 16,790 iceberg lettuces, 33,227 cucumbers, 16,858 punnets of raspberries, 40,942 punnets of strawberries, 7,926 tubs of double cream, 5,854 packs of Co-op beef quarter pounders 15,146 punnets of blueberries and 9,298 Co-op pepperoni and 8,706 Co-op margherita pizzas.

Colleagues have also been distributing hundreds of other products including thousands of packs of bacon, sausage rolls, vegetables and fruits.

Lee Dundee, Distribution Warehousing Manager, said, “We have had some very warm weather in the last few weeks, which means the Chilled Distribution Centre has been very busy.

“The run-up to the final bank holiday of the summer will be another peak in our activity, ensuring our customers can get what they need from our stores to make the end of summer enjoyable and memorable. We will then be looking ahead to the next peak in the run-up to Christmas.”
