TRG celebrates SRA star ratings

The Restaurant Group (TRG), one of the UK’s largest casual dining operators, has received star ratings for the Food Made Good 2019 Sustainability Report conducted on behalf of the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA).

The firm's Leisure division, primarily comprising of our Frankie & Benny's and Chiquito (dish pictured) brands, and Concessions division operating in airports, have both received 2 stars, and Brunning and Price pubs division has received the top rating of 3.

TRG has also been shortlisted for two awards at the SRA Food Made Good Awards 2019, which celebrate those pioneering sustainability progress in the hospitality industry.

The ratings and being shortlisted for these awards recognise the efforts TRG has made in working towards sourcing products sustainability and responsibility, food-waste reduction, conscious meat eating and plastic reduction, as well as support for its staff and the wider community.

TRG is one of three finalists in two categories, the Value Natural Resources award and the Support Global Farmers award. The Value Natural Resources award, sponsored by Good Energy, is designed to recognise businesses using smart solutions to better preserve energy and water, or demonstrating innovative ways to preserve resources in their sites.

The management of energy consumption is a key focus for TRG. The company has been working hard to drive change, find innovations and engage with teams to use less energy, resulting in benefits for both the environment and the business.

The Support Global Farmers award rewards foodservice businesses having the biggest impact on the lives and land of farmers thousands of miles away. TRG purchases significant volumes of traded commodities such as coffee, tea and chocolates.

TRG has implemented standards across its sourcing, including Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, Ethical Tea Partnership and RSPO certified palm oil.

Rob Beale, TRG's Purchasing Director, commented, “We are delighted to have received a 3 star rating for our Pubs, 2 star ratings in the rest of our divisions, and to also have been nominated for these awards. All this recognises the excellent results our teams have delivered in these fields and our efforts to become a more sustainable and responsible business.

“This Value Natural Resources category encompasses every department in our business, from Energy Champions in each site ensuring energy is not wasted, to our product development teams working with suppliers to create novel ways of packaging product through the supply chain.

“We take great pride in our policies to support farmers globally and being shortlisted for this award provides us with further motivation to continue to strive forward in this area. We are committed to upholding our high standards and long term partnerships with the farmers we work with.”
