UKHospitality comments on Environment Bill

The Environment Bill was introduced into parliament on 15 October 2019, and has today been re-introduced to parliament following a general election. The Environment Bill 2020 sets out how we plan to protect and improve the natural environment in the UK.

Commenting on the Bill, UKHospitality Chief Executive Kate Nicholls said, “The hospitality sector takes its environmental responsibilities seriously and we welcome the Government’s commitments in that regard.

'Our sector has worked proactively to cut waste, promote recycling and tackle environmental issues, and will continue to do so. Voluntary measures have already worked to remove huge amounts of single-use plastic and we are working on measures to reduce carbon emissions for our sector.:

Nicholls concluded, “Any new measures need to take into consideration possible cost increases, of which consumers will need to be made aware. Whatever the Government proposes, it’s important that such measures do not undermine the work we are already doing or, worse, pile on significant additional costs.”
