Co-op to open new Leicestershire food store this month

Central England Co-operative can today reveal the launch date and a first look behind the scenes of its brand new food store in Leicestershire.

The Society will officially open its new store in Manor Road, Donington le Heath, at 9am on Friday, 13 March, with a special ribbon cutting ceremony by local schoolchildren marking the occasion.

The store will be named Oak Tree Corner as a nod to the nickname of where it is located, so named due to the oak tree which had stood there for centuries before it was removed in the 1950s.

Oak Tree Corner Central England Co-operative Store Manager Jonathan Bird said: “This is a very exciting time for everyone in the team and preparations for the big day are well under way.

“Please come and join us at 9am on Friday, 13 March, see us cut the ribbon and take a look around our brand new store.

“There will be a great buzz on opening day and to celebrate the food store launch we will have plenty of special opening offers, we will be talking to customers about membership and how we can support in the local community. We look forward to seeing you there.”

The pictures showcase the progress over the last few months and the latest images show how both the inside and the outside of the store have nearly been completed and are ready for thousands of products to be stacked onto the shelves ahead of the official opening.

The car park has been finished, special eco-friendly fridges and lighting have been installed to back up the retailer’s eco-friendly ethos and the store's kiosk is now in situ.

A special opening offer will give shoppers who register an email address the opportunity to grab a free Costa Coffee to celebrate the launch, as well as being entered into special prize draws to win £100 in the store’s opening weeks.

The new convenience store will offer shoppers an expansive range of products and will be fitted out with pioneering new energy efficient refrigeration technologies to minimise environmental impact and LED lighting.

The Oak Tree Corner Co-operative food store will be open from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Sunday.

The store will offer a wide range of products from everyday necessities to something a little more special.

This includes fresh fruit and vegetables, an in-store bakery offering breads and pastries, chilled beers and wines, fresh and frozen product, Irresistible product ranges, Costa Coffee machine, an instant hot water tap so customers can enjoy a herbal tea, as well as a great selection of food to go, including hot food.

The store will feature a free water refill station, a phone charging area and customer seating inside and outside of the store.

It also offers Lottery, Paypoint, Collect Plus, foreign currency, customer toilets, a free car park and a free cash machine.
