Sainsbury’s lands on London City Island

Sainsbury’s has just welcomed customers to the only supermarket brand at London City Island. This is the retailer’s second store opening in less than a week.

The new convenience store is right in the heart of a new residential development by Ballymore and is home to range of fresh food and convenience products. The Sainsbury’s Local also provides customers with a convenient place to pick up a coffee thanks to the in-store Costa coffee machine.

The store has created 21 new jobs and will trade from 7am-11pm seven days a week.

The opening was marked this morning by the store team, who were also joined by neighbours from the English National Ballet to celebrate the first day in business. Dancers attended a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Sainsbury’s colleagues at 9.30am.

Sainsbury’s London City Island Local will play an active role in the community and will also support Sainsbury’s nationwide community programmes.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Property Director, said, “Sainsbury’s is excited to be joining this unique and exciting London development. We’re proud to have delivered a neighbourhood shopping experience that will meet the needs of London City Island well into the future. This store provides residents and visitors with a safe, fresh and convenient shopping destination.”

Asraf Bhuiyan, Sainsbury’s London City Island Local Store Manager, said, “The store looks fantastic and we’re delighted to open the doors and meet our new customers. The team is really looking forward to getting to work.”
