Tesco reports 7.6% interim sales rise


Supermarket chain Tesco posted its interim results for 2020/21 showing sales for the UK stood at £19.5m, a rise of 7.6% in like-for-likes.

This period saw major shifts in customer buying habits in the UK with food sales up 9.2%, clothing down by 17.2%, and general merchandise down by 0.3%.

Online delivery capacity more than doubled to reach 1.5m slots a week, including serving 674,000 vulnerable customers.

For the group's subsidiary, Booker sales came to £3.5m, an uplift of 2.2% in like-for-likes. Retail sales were up 22%, and catering sales fell by 12% - an improvement from 1Q driven by doubling of market share and benefit of Best Food Logistics.
