Pret A Manger launches retail coffee range in Waitrose

Pret A Manger’s retail coffee range is now available in Waitrose, expanding Pret’s retail offer as part of its ongoing transformation plan.

The range, which launched on Amazon and in Pret’s shops in May, is now available in supermarkets for the first time. Available online, via the app or in store, customers can enjoy Pret’s 100% organic and 100% arabica coffee from the comfort of their own homes thanks to the new partnership.

The packaging has been designed to not only protect the great taste and freshness of the coffee but is also one of the very first recyclable coffee bags to launch in the UK, collected alongside carrier bags at supermarket recycling points.

The range includes Pret’s two core coffees used in its own stores: Pret’s Organic Classic Blend Ground Coffee (200g) which is used for its famous filter coffee and Pret’s Organic Espresso Beans (450g), the base of all its espresso based coffees such as its flat whites and lattes.

Pret’s Organic Classic Blend Ground Coffee is Pret’s signature filter blend with beans hand-picked and grown by smallholder farmers in Peru, Honduras, Sumatra and Ethiopia. Roasted until just right, they create a sweet and indulgent cup of coffee with delicious praline and caramel notes.

Pret’s Organic Espresso Beans are used in Pret’s signature espresso blend, sold in its shops across the UK. Our whole espresso beans are hand-picked and grown by smallholder farmers in Peru, Honduras, Sumatra and Ethiopia. Dark roasted to create a rich and indulgent coffee with notes of dark chocolate and roasted nut. This blend sells 80 million cups of coffee in our shops every year.

This partnership marks the expansion of Pret’s retail offering following the range’s launch on Amazon earlier this year. Retail is a key tenet of Pret’s wider transformation programme to bring Pret to more people, following the highly successful launch of the UK’s first in-shop coffee subscription in September.

Clare Clough, Pret a Manger UK Managing Director, said, “Throughout this year, our customers have made it clear just how much they love and miss our organic coffee. This new partnership with Waitrose means more of our customers will be able to play the role of Pret Barista and brew their own at home.

“While this continues to be a challenging year, our aspiration is to bring Pret to more people, in innovative new ways and via new channels. This partnership means our carefully sourced, much-loved coffee will now be even more readily available for customers to enjoy at home.”

Pret shops remain open across London and the UK for takeaway and delivery through 3rd party partners with new social distancing and safety measures in place.

Continuing to spread the joy, Pret have also recently released their iconic Christmas menu, seeing 50p donation from the sale of each Christmas sandwich to the Pret Foundation, which supports grassroots charities in communities local to Pret shops. It comes as Pret celebrates 25 years of the Pret Foundation, with the singular goal to break the cycle of homelessness.

The Pret Foundation's very own fleet of charity vans collect and deliver unsold food from Pret shops every night to over 100 hostels and charities supporting homeless people across London. Over the last 25 years, the Pret Foundation has donated 35 million food items to 126 charities up and down the UK.
