Wetherspoons shuts Scottish sites as tier 3 restrictions hit trade

Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has closed 46 sites that sit within tier 3 areas, with one remaining open.

Under tier three restrictions, pubs and licensed premises can remain open but must close at 6pm and are banned from serving alcohol.

The one pub remaining open in a tier 3 area is The Auld Brig in Irvine (pictured) as it continues to attract business as its sits within the Rivergate shopping centre.

As we reported last week, Wetherpoons stated, 'The Scottish pubs, in particular, are subject to an extremely onerous tier system which, as has been widely reported, is having a serious effect on trade.'

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon confirmed that 46 of its 61 pubs in Scotland closed from 6pm on Saturday and will reopen when restrictions are eased and pubs can trade more normally.
