Smokestak terrace to reopen next month

On Monday 12 April, in line with new government guidance, London's Smokestak will reopen its terrace and welcome guests to its Shoreditch home once again.

Diners ready to feast on Smokestak’s signature smoked meats will be seated al fresco under a bespoke new canopy and can expect a barbecue-led menu of much-loved favourites and innovative new spring dishes from founder David Carter and his team. Bookings can be made from 29 March for groups of up to six people, with tables also kept for walk-ins.

Made of army green canvas, the new awning is designed to protect guests from unpredictable British weather as they dine. During the day, window-style panels to allow sunlight to flood through, while in the evening the space will be cosily lit with festoon lighting.

Diners can take their pick from a list of new snacks and starters that make the most of abundant spring produce: there’s calcot fritti; chipotle caramel wings; and salt baked beetroot, goat cheese and hazelnut.

Buns come packed with pastrami, pickles, mustard and dill, while a line-up of carefully sourced meats from Carter’s custom US smoker features lamb merguez with mint dressing; charred pork belly rib with pickled cucumber; and beef brisket with mustard barbecue. On the side, there’s new season Jersey royals with wild garlic aioli; and a refreshing fennel and herb salad with a citrus dressing.

For dessert, alongside Smokestak’s classic sticky toffee pudding, there’s a seasonal rhubarb and ginger panna cotta. Those on the go will also be able to order the full menu to take away and enjoy at home or in the park.

For those who can’t yet make it to the restaurant, Smokestak will also be continuing the success of its At Home DIY kits. Packed with cocktails, smoked meats, sides and sauces, the boxes are delivered nationwide, ready to be enjoyed in the comfort of diners’ own kitchens.

Carter said, “The team has done an amazing job throughout lockdown making our At Home DIY kits, but a restaurant is all about giving guests the full experience.

'We’re really looking forward to reopening Smokestak with our new canopy in place, and once indoor dining is permitted, we will of course be welcoming guests back inside the restaurant. In the meantime, we’re having an exciting re-design, with new furniture and floor plans.”
