Aldi sells 2.5 million vegan products over January

As Veganuary comes to a close, budget supermarket Aldi has reported another hugely successful response to its extensive plant-based range, of which over 50% of its offering was brand new for 2022.

Along with its new fakeaway range, Aldi launched its first ever vegan cheese which sold more than 114K units during Veganuary.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said, “This January, we have seen another incredible response to our vegan range, with over 2.5 million vegan products sold so far this month.

“We are very proud of our offering, with over 50% of the range being brand new products for 2022, which includes a new ‘fakeaway’ range, featuring Plant Menu No Chicken Nuggets, Plant Menu No Chicken Indian Spiced Strips and Plant Menu Salt & Vinegar No Fish Fillets, from as little as 99p.

'We also launched our first ever block and grated vegan cheese, less than half the price of other supermarkets, with more than 114,000 units sold in January.

“What we’ve shown this January is that shoppers following a plant-based diet needn’t miss out on their favourite foods or spend a fortune, which is something our customers are responding well to.'

Ashfield finished, 'Now we’re bringing this thinking to the rest of the year, with some tasty plant-based treats available within our Valentine’s range, which will be in stores soon, and a brand-new vegan centrepiece for Easter.”
