Mindful Chef announces three-year partnership with Diabetes UK

Healthy recipe box brand, Mindful Chef has today announced its new three-year partnership with the UK’s leading diabetes charity, Diabetes UK.

The partnership will see both brands unite on a mission to make healthy eating easy for people living with diabetes, or at risk of developing type 2 diabetes through easy-to-cook, healthy feel-good food.

In the UK there are currently 4.9 million people living with diabetes and around 90% of those have type 2. The NHS spends a staggering £10 billion a year on diabetes, one of the UK's biggest and growing health crises.

Lifestyle changes such as eating a healthy diet and keeping physically active can help some people halve the risk of type 2 diabetes and prevent life-changing complications.

Mindful Chef is aware that many of its customers live with diabetes, so wanted to work closely with Diabetes UK to learn about the challenges people face if they are (or someone close to them is) diagnosed with the condition. One of the biggest is understanding the nutritional requirements of a healthy diet to manage diabetes.

The brands have joined forces to create a bespoke range of nutritionist-approved recipes designed to make healthy eating easier for people living with diabetes, or at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Following six months of recipe planning together, the menu features carefully balanced meals and clear nutritional labelling including the carb amounts to also help people living with type 1 diabetes who are carb counting.

Appearing on the Mindful Chef recipe box menu weekly from August, the new Mindful Chef x Diabetes UK recipes feature a variety of flavours and sustainably sourced ingredients. Plus everything needed is conveniently delivered straight to your door.

Those living with diabetes won’t have to compromise on taste either. Mindful Chef has tweaked some of its favourite recipes specifically to support people with managing their diabetes. Menu highlights include Turkey with Creamy Pesto Penne & Spinach and Aubergine Parmigiana with Balsamic Mixed Salad - all gluten and dairy free too.

Myles Hopper, co-founder of Mindful Chef, said, “Mindful Chef’s mission has always been to make healthy eating easy. We feel strongly that this should be the case regardless of dietary requirements which is why our range is gluten and dairy free with a wide variety of plant-based offerings on the menu.

“We are delighted to have taken this ethos to the next step through our partnership with Diabetes UK, now making mealtimes easier for those who need to carefully monitor their macros to suit a diabetes-friendly diet.

“From a business perspective, we felt that we were well suited to provide a solution for this consumer demand among the diabetes community and Diabetes UK aligns strongly as a brand partner in terms of both target consumer and core values.

“We’re so excited to start this long-term journey with Diabetes UK, making it as easy as possible for those living with diabetes, or at risk of type 2 diabetes, to cook healthy and delicious meals that make them feel great”.

Chris Askew OBE, chief executive of Diabetes UK, commented, “We know that after being diagnosed with diabetes, confusion around how to adapt your diet is often a concern for people and their families.

'For this reason, we were really excited to work with the team at Mindful Chef to develop a range of recipes that will make healthy eating easier for people with diabetes, and those who may be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.”
