Interserve Engineering Services (IES), a division of Interserve PLC, has secured a £10.5 million contract to design and install the mechanical and electrical services in a new production facility for the confectionary giant, Haribo.

The 30,700 sq.m. three-storey manufacturing unit and four-storey office facility in Castleford, Wakefield, adjacent to the M62 motorway, will be built by Wates Construction.

Once operational, the facility will produce over 48,000 tonnes of sweets a year and is set to create 286 jobs in the area.

Managing Director of Haribo UK, Herwig Vennekens commented, “After two years of planning it’s great to finally get to the stage where we are setting the foundations that support our plans for growth within the UK.

'This investment in a new facility will enhance Haribo’s production capabilities and help us to meet the growing demand for our products.”

Works are scheduled to start on site in May 2014 with completion scheduled for spring 2015.
