TRG and Giraffe to open second joint airport venue

The Restaurant Group (TRG) and Giraffe are to open their second joint venture in Gatwick’s Airport’s South Terminal this month following a £2m investment in the site.

Watertree, an all day global food dining experience, will occupy a 5,000sq ft space at Gatwick with 200-covers. It will offer both a sit-down and take away menu, in food served from an open kitchen with views of the airport’s runway.

Dishes will include artisan flatbreads, burgers, sharing platters, and all-day breakfast plates, plus internationally-inspired salads, morning pastries, and fresh bread. There will also be a range of gluten-free options.

The drinks menu will feature smoothies, fresh juices and shakes, plus wine from around the world, ciders, and a selection of sangria jugs.

TRG and Giraffe launched the first Giraffe in 2013 at Heathrow Airport Terminal 2. Similar in size, this site also covers a 5,000sq ft space although offers 210-covers.

Nick Ayerst, managing director of TRG Concessions, said: “When challenged by Gatwick to offer an iconic casual restaurant for the South Terminal, we naturally thought of Wondertree. Wondertree embraces the new generation of eating and drinking. We are delighted to have won the space.”

Andrew Jacobs, co-founder of Giraffe Restaurants, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity to build on our successful relationship with TRG in creating the premium casual dining formats in UK airports.”
