Notting Hill rum bar wins Guniness World Record

Cottons Caribbean Restaurant and Salon de Rhum in London's Notting Hill Gate has been awarded a Guniness World Record for the bar with the most rums (372) commercially available.

There are two types of rums, industrial rum made from molasses, and agricol rum made from sugar cane on the French Caribbean islands. Some of the rums are called overproof, with an alcohol content of greater than 57.5%, though most are bottled and labelled as ‘151’, meaning an alcohol content of 75.5%. Most are around 40% proof.

The 1960s British Navy Rum Flagon is the most expensive rum stocked, priced at £255 a shot and £6,250 per bottle, while the Nepalese Khukri rum is one of the most rare, priced at £12.50 per shot and £350 per bottle.

To coincide with the win, Cottons has launched a Cocktail Training School. Budding bar hopefuls, keen to cut their teeth in the industry can enrol monthly in the sessions which include an introduction to cocktail making together with a week’s live training at one of the Cottons rhum shacks.
