JKS Restaurants has announced that it will launch two new Motu Indian Kitchen sites this autumn, in Islington on 17 October and Swiss Cottage on 3 November, bringing its British Indian takeaway classics north of the river.
The two new delivery kitchens will bring Motu to the residents of north London for the first time. Islington, which will open this October, will cover areas of Camden, Holloway, Islington and Clerkenwell, while the Swiss Cottage opening in November will service areas of Hampstead, West Hampstead, St. John’s Wood, Swiss Cottage, Chalk Farm, Regent’s Park and Finchley Road.
Both kitchens will be open daily for dinner, as well as for lunch at weekends. The openings come a year after the launch of the first Motu site in Battersea at the end of 2016, and follow the success of subsequent openings across London, as well as being named one of the ‘100 best things in the world right now’ by GQ Magazine.
Exclusive to the new Motu Swiss Cottage site will be Indo-Chinese specials, which will introduce Chinese seasonings and cooking techniques to classic Indian dishes such as ‘Chilli Chicken’, ‘Paneer 65’, ‘Keema Masala Egg Fried Rice’ and ‘Chilli Garlic Mogo (cassava chips)’.
Exclusives at Motu Islington will include street food favourites such as ‘Lamb Shammi Bun Kebab’ and ‘Aloo Tikki Bun Kebab’ – a spicy patty with Motu’s famous green chutney and tamarind sauce, topped with a masala omelette, fried onions and chat masala, all served in a toasted bun.
The exclusive dishes at both sites will sit alongside the usual a la carte offering with Motu favourites such as ‘Tandoori Chicken Wings’ and ‘Lamb Shank Roganjosh’.
Founded by the Sethi family, the sibling restaurateurs behind Michelin-starred Gymkhana and Trishna, and the award-winning Hoppers in Soho and St. Christopher’s Place, Motu Indian Kitchen delivers refined versions of British Indian takeaway classics.
Named after the Sethis’ affectionate nickname for their uncle, meaning “Fat Man” in Hindi, Motu’s menus centre around “Feast Boxes” that take inspiration from the traditional tiffins used to distribute meals to workers across Indian cities, serving one or two people from £16.
Earlier this year, Motu launched its large party delivery service which allows customers to order food to any area of London with a minimum order of £100, meaning those not currently serviced by the sites are able to get a taste of the kitchen’s highly acclaimed food.
