Hawthorn set to launch in Kew Village next month

Scheduled to open on Wednesday 1 February in Kew, Richmond upon Thames, Hawthorn will offer refined, modern European dining using predominantly British seasonal ingredients.

The restaurant will draw on the considerable expertise of both chef Joshua Hunter and Patra Panas who have a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry to offer elegance and produce that you wouldn’t typically expect from a local neighbourhood restaurant.

The space has undergone extensive refurbishment and has been designed to appeal to destination diners from Kew and Richmond, as well as across West London, Surrey, and beyond.

Joshua (pictured left) will be running the kitchen, utilising his experience as a classically trained chef with thirteen years of experience cooking in Michelin-starred restaurants such as Kitchen W8, Murano by Angela Hartnett, and La Trompette, as well as for celebrity private clients including the Beckham family and Tom Cruise.

Focusing on modern European cuisine underpinned by an ethos of generosity, Joshua creates mouthwatering dishes of outstanding quality, taking inspiration from fresh, seasonal ingredients.

He will be using high-quality suppliers to create simple, unfussy dishes that prioritise flavour and combine his passion for British game and wild food. Joshua also operates restaurant Joshua Hunter at Holland & Holland Shooting Grounds, established in 2019.

Joshua expanded, “My vision for the food at Hawthorn is simply to cook food people really want to eat. We’re incredibly lucky to be supported by some of the best suppliers in the UK such as Huntsham Court Farm in the Wye Valley and Flying Fish seafoods in Cornwall, offering us access to wonderful quality produce.

'If we can utilise that in a way that brings a moment of great joy to our guests, then I’ll feel that we’ve done our job well,” he added.

Patra (pictured right) will oversee the front of house operations, following her stellar background managing renowned establishments including The Athenaeum private members club and Michelin-starred La Trompette, as well as The Glasshouse, the former restaurant site Hawthorn is located on.

Patra is a familiar face with the local community with whom she maintains an outstanding relationship.

Between them, Joshua and Patra have assembled an exceptional team, most of whom have worked with Joshua or with Patra at the previous restaurants and are looking forward to welcoming back the local regulars.

Said Patra , “I’m thrilled to be bringing a new destination restaurant to the residents of Kew Village. It’s a stunning location and a wonderful neighbourhood – there’s been so much interest from the locals popping in to see how the renovations are going and I can’t wait to welcome them. We want guests to feel they’re being served great food with friendly, warm and elegant service.”

Hawthorn will serve lunch and dinner Tuesday – Saturday (12.00 – 14:15 & 18:00 – 21:45), with a full team of 15 staff.
