AF Blakemore buys SPAR c-stores from failed County Stores

AF Blakemore has bought the SPAR convenience store division of County Stores out of administration through BDO.

Restructuring partners at BDO, Simon Girling and Danny Dartnaill, were appointed joint administrators of County Stores Holdings, County Stores (Grocers) and County Stores (Supermarkets) on 6 April 2017.

Country Stores owned five SPAR sites situated in Ledbury, Presteigne, Oxford, Witney and Eynsham, and two NISA stores in Lydney and Coleford in Gloucestershire.

AF Blakemore is the largest division of SPAR UK, owning 300 SPAR stores and serving more than 1,000 in total across England and Wales. The company is also the largest member of the Landmark Wholesale group and a significant supplier to the independent grocery sector across the UK.
