Fuller, Smith and Turner PLC, the London brewer and premium pub company, has just opened its newest managed site – The Hercules in Lambeth, London SE1, under the stewardship of General Manager Liam Mckeown.
The spacious ground floor boasts a bar and dining area – the dining space is an open floor plan, plus a cosy cubbyhole with a fire. Its bar features 19 keg lines, dedicated to showcasing the latest craft beers from Fuller’s and other breweries – plus five cask pumps, pouring the finest cask ale.
The kitchen will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner – offering a delicious selection of main dishes and bar snacks, plus roasts on Sundays. Upstairs is another, slightly cosier bar – which will be available for private hire. The centre piece of this room is a full-length shuffleboard table, available to hire by the hour.
The Hercules is a 21st Century take on the pub that opened in the building over 200 years ago – even sharing its name. It is a short walk from where Asterly’s Amphitheatre once stood – founded by Philip Asterly, the father of the modern circus.
The Hercules’ décor is more than a nod to the circus theme – the walls are decorated with incredible old pictures, promotional posters and props from London’s circuses when their popularity was at its peak.
Jonathon Swaine, Managing Director of Fuller’s Inns, said, “I’m over the moon about this exciting addition to the Fuller’s estate. The building and area have a fascinating history and heritage – much like Fuller’s, so it’s a perfect fit in our rich portfolio of managed pubs.
'We really wanted to pay homage to the grand circuses Lambeth became famous for in the late 18th Century – while remaining modern and forward-thinking with the beer and food offer available.
'The result is a brilliant combination of old and new – The Hercules is a destination for craft beer lovers and fans of top-quality food, who will be able to enjoy exciting new brews plus fresh and tasty dishes while surrounded by memories from an iconic part of this area’s history.”
