West Midlands- based Poundland is planning to build a distribution centre of more than 300,000 sq ft in Wigan, with the creation of 800 jobs.
The company opened its first store in 1990 and now has more than 500 stores across the UK and Ireland.
In February, it unveiled a £55m takeover bid 99p Stores which has more than 250 stores in the UK. This is currently the subject of an inquiry by the Competition and Markets Authority which is due to publish its final report in the middle of October 2015.
