Dandy to open perm N16 neighbourhood eatery next month

Daniel Wilson and Andrew Leitch, the duo behind the popular Dandy Cafe, the successful shipping container pop-up restaurant in London Fields, have announced they will open a new permanent restaurant site on Newington Green, London N16, on 5 April.

Now called simply Dandy, a hybrid of the owners’ names coined from a conversation with a friend’s Dad, the new neighbourhood restaurant is housed in the former space of Newington Table.

Overlooking the green and located close to Stoke Newington, Dandy comprises 50-covers inside with a further 30 on the terrace for al fresco dining when the British weather allows. The menu will take inspiration from the Dan and Andy’s travels, using seasonal produce from trusted suppliers, with an aim to challenge traditional food customs in a way that is both exciting and engaging.

Those who visited the pop-up before it closed last month will see an extended menu of the same intriguing ingredients and dish compositions from chef Dan and his kitchen team at the new site, with dishes including Shawarma-spiced lamb belly, babaganoush & cauliflower, Burnt onion broth, spring leaves & hay-smoked labne, and ‘Radicchio with blood orange & miso.

Co-owner and head chef Wilson commented that he “wants to share a story in the dishes we create through taste, texture and presentation”. The restaurant will use a selection of top quality produce across the board, focussing on seasonal ingredients, speciality coffee and beer and natural wines.

Co-owner, general manager and sommelier, Leitch notes that they aim to be as inclusive and low key as possible at the new neighbourhood restaurant, knowing that the world of natural wine and specialty coffee can be off putting to the un-initiated, they will aim to make both the informed consumer and total novice comfortable.

Dandy will offer both reservations and seats for walk-ins, for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week from 8am – 4pm, and dinner from 6pm until 11pm Wednesday to Saturday.
