New Italian restaurant to open in Leeds

Sarto - a joint venture between Laynes Espresso coffee bar in Leeds and The Brunswick pub-restaurant, also in Leeds - is to launch on Saturday 19 October.

Opening in Leeds city centre, Sarto will serve up quality, homemade pasta, in a casual dining environment, following a successful six-weekend pop-up at Laynes and a Kickstarter campaign.

The menu brings together pasta dishes from across the regions of Italy, using Italian heritage ingredients and local produce, with Sarto's own added twists.

Dishes include Pan-fried gnocchi, Jerusalem artichoke, nutmeg & thyme, Squid ink bucatini, nduja, Shetland mussels & samphire, Pumpkin, sage & taleggio arancini, aioli, and Pappardelle, neck of beef ragu, old Winchester.

There will be a range of cocktails from The Brunswick team, and a bottle bar will serve local and more mainstream beers on tap, plus there will be a wine list.

Dave Olejnik, Sarto's co-founder, said, “Running the Sarto pop-ups at Laynes for six weekends has helped us trial and test many of the dishes you’ll see on the menu and allowed us to chat to people about what we aim to achieve.

'We’re sure Sarto will find its place amongst the other quality-led casual dining venues that Leeds has to offer.”

Yanni, Sarto's head chef (from The Reliance), added, “I’m so excited to finally have Sarto ready to open. It will allow me the opportunity to make fresh pasta dishes, while working with a combination of Italian heritage ingredients and the best of local producers.

'I’ll be pushing pasta in a direction that everyone can relate to, whilst making sure we serve something unique and honest.”
