Nestlé announces £28 million investment in UK site

Nestlé has unveiled a £28m investment in its Dalston site in Cumbria, where Nescafé Frothy Coffee is produced, to enhance manufacturing capabilities and support long-term growth.

The upgrade will include building a new, state-of-the-art mixing plant and installing two advanced high-tech packing lines.

These enhancements will significantly improve production efficiency, enabling the output of 60,000 frothy coffee sachets per hour.

Furthermore, the new lines are designed to accommodate advanced packaging materials such as MONO PP laminate, a fully recyclable material that contributes to Nestlé’s overarching sustainability objectives.

Richard Watson, CEO of Nestlé UK & Ireland, said: “We are very proud of our British manufacturing, and this investment reflects the great work being done by our teams to position the UK as a market with significant manufacturing expertise and capability.

“The Dalston investment is a prime example of how we’re investing in the future of the British food and drink industry – modernising our operations and supporting local jobs, driving growth opportunities and being more sustainable.”

The FMCG giant is allocating £17.5m to the new mixing plant, which incorporates the latest equipment and design standards to deliver higher-quality products.

The four-storey facility will also reduce heavy lifting by 80%, thanks to a system that handles ingredients in larger bags, improving both accuracy and efficiency.

Ian Pipes, Nestlé Dalston’s factory manager, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which marks a significant step forward for our Dalston site.

“By upgrading our facilities with the latest technology, we’re not only improving product quality but also creating a more sustainable and supportive environment for our teams.”
