Vapiano shows rise in turnover despite new opening costs

Germany-based Vapiano, the casual Italian restaurant chain, has delivered a rise in UK site turnover of £9.16m in the year to 31 December 2014, which is up from £7.53m in the previous year.

The company, which is led by Phil Sermon, posted a pre-tax loss of £316k compared to a profit of £77k in the year before, and gross profit margin fell to 41% in 2014 from 45%.

Vapiano stated that the pre-opening costs of the third London restaurant in the period contributed to the pre-tax loss figure. However, the turnover at the first two restaurants rose by 21.6%.

The firm is set to open a new restaurant, its first outside London, this summer. The new outlet is based in the Iconic Corn Exchange building in the Manchester's city centre, and is spread over 2 floors with 250 seats.
