Subway's CEO, Suzanne Greco, the sister of the chain's late co-founder, Fred DeLuca, is retiring on 30 June after 45 years at the company.

Trevor Haynes (pictured), currently chief business development officer at Subway, will take over after that date as interim CEO.

In 2009, Haynes moved to the UK from Australia to serve as senior area development manager for the UK and Ireland, spending four years in the role.

Launched over 50 years ago, Subway has struggled in recent years, closing more than 900 US sites last year, with plans to close around 500 more this year

However, beyond the US, the chain plans to launch up to 1,000 new franchises this year.

Subway currently operates 44,000 outlets across 112 countries.
