Apex Hotels marketer scoops ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award

A marketing manager for Apex Hotels has been presented with the Women in Tourism Board’s inaugural ‘Outstanding Contribution to Women in Tourism’ Award.

Julia MacGregor (pictured centre), Guest Engagement and Content Manager for the Edinburgh-based hotel group, is the youngest member of the Board and joined just 11 months ago.

She received her accolade at Women in Tourism’s annual ‘Celebrating Women in Tourism’ reception in November.

The recognition comes following the inaugural Year of Young People Tourism Conference, organised by MacGregor, which took place at the University of Strathclyde and was attended by more than 100 delegates from across the country.

Following an introduction from MacGregor, the conference also involved a question and answer with a panel of CEO’S including Apex Hotels’ very own Angela Vickers. Delegates were also invited to partake in a series of workshops on social media, mentoring and leadership.

Susan Russell, Chair of Women in Tourism, said, “We are delighted to present Julia with our first ever Outstanding Contribution to Women in Tourism Award. Following her appointment to the Board in early 2018, her commitment, drive and passion for supporting young women in the industry is testament to the leader she has become.”

MacGregor said, “Receiving the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award is unbelievable – I’m absolutely thrilled. Joining the Women in Tourism Board is one of the best decisions I have made. It has so far been a brilliant experience, giving me the opportunity to learn from some of the most respected women in the industry.

“The conference itself was also a great success and I am just delighted to be a part of something so empowering for young women in hospitality.”
