Cake Box expands with £1.4m Bradford & Coventry sites

Egg-free cake producer, Cake Box is to expand its distribution business with two warehouse and distribution centres in Bradford and Coventry for £1.4m.

Cake Box believes the acquisition of the sites will help support its future growth, including new franchise store openings.

At the end of February, the AIM-listed company had 111 franchise stores, having opened a further 10 outlets since its half year end.

Cake Box also intends to install some sponge production capability at its new centres, enabling Cake Box to reduce its distribution costs and provide a back up to its existing production facility in Enfield.

The business opened its first store in the heart of East London in 2008. Its mission was to provide the UK market with a new concept; delicious, fresh cream celebration cakes made without using eggs, and an ‘on demand’ service.

By eliminating the egg, without compromising on taste and texture, the cakes were an instant success, and a favourite amongst many who have certain religious, dietary and/or lifestyle choices.
