Deliveroo to reach 6.5m more UK homes in second half of 2019

Deliveroo will expand aggressively in the UK in the second half of 2019 as it pursues its ambition to become the definitive food company.

The expansion will mean that over 6.5 million additional homes will be served by the platform, and that Deliveroo will now be available to over half the population in the UK.

The expansion will allow Deliveroo, as the delivery partner choice of the UK’s most popular restaurant and takeaway brands, to improve consumer choice in more towns and cities.

Independent Economic analysis has demonstrated the positive impact that Deliveroo brings to the UK restaurant industry, having created 25,000 jobs in the UK restaurant industry since its launch six years ago.

According to Capital Economics, this is nearly 10% of the total number of employees in Deliveroo’s partner restaurants, and is on top of the 25,000 self-employed riders Deliveroo provides flexible, well-paid work to in the UK.

The food delivery company’s operations are expected to have helped create almost 70,000 restaurant jobs in the UK by 2020.

The company is also set to invest heavily in expanding its tech team over the course of the next year, hiring for top class tech talent including software engineers, specialists in algorithms, data scientists, designers and product managers. The recruitment is further evidence of the vital role tech plays in powering the food delivery platform.

Last month Deliveroo announced its Series G fundraising round led by Amazon.

Will Shu, founder and CEO of Deliveroo, said, “Deliveroo has a very clear mission to become the definitive food company offering a better service, price and selection than anyone else.

'This is a really exciting time for the company; we are doubling down in markets where we know the growth potential is huge, we’re leading the way in investing in innovations like our Editions super kitchens and everyday we are recruiting world class tech to power our operations.

“The opportunity is massive and we’ve come a huge way in just six years , but we’re hungrier than ever to grow, build and ultimately, win.”
