Bumper first year for Punch Training Academy

Just a year after its opening, a new training academy is leading the way when it comes to getting pub business owners up to speed with their operations.

The Academy, opened by independent pub operator Punch Pubs & Co at its Burton-upon-Trent headquarters in September 2018, has held more than 80 events for Publicans and their teams and welcomed over 1,000 visitors in its first year, providing them with an unrivalled training experience.

Punch can train Publicans in every aspect of running a pub business at the new purpose-built space. It features two fully-fitted and functional bars along with a food development kitchen with multiple training stations, along with a lounge area, coffee centre and spacious live training cellar.

The Academy also contains several training rooms and informal places to relax, network and talk about business. The 300-seater conference room with full AV, theatre and table-style seating has been a popular choice across the industry and a must-see for many industry professionals too.

Speaking about The Academy’s success, HR Director for Punch, Jackie Burn, said, “The Academy is an industry-leading training facility and we have seen over 1,000 Publicans and their teams with all levels of experience attend this year. We are finding that once people use the facility, they tend to want to come back for more training here.”

Punch also launched a new digital training package, including The Punch Academy Console and App, which is helping Punch Publicans stay one step ahead. The online portal connects Publicans to The Academy workshop events, bookings and pathways of blended learning through eLearning, videos and a huge range of other on-demand templates and materials.

Since its launch, Punch has seen an amazing 8,160 online training courses being completed by its Publicans and their teams.

Burn added, “Publicans are really seeing the benefits of the training available, whether that is at The Academy or with our online package and as such we are going to continue to develop and innovate the training packages available in the future.”
