Winning cocktail launched in aid of Hospitality Action

Following its fundraising Hospitality Cocktail Competition, Smeaton’s is looking to work with bars and restaurants across the UK to drive the new cocktail - the Hospitality - and will donate to Hospitality Action on behalf of venues that support it.

Brand owner Michael Palij MW explained, “Bars and restaurants embraced Smeaton’s Gin when we launched. Now it’s our turn to help and at this immensely challenging time for the ontrade, we are committed to supporting Hospitality Action - a charity which supports hospitality workers in times of hardship.”

Meme Toor, a gin competition judge and blogger, won Smeaton’s competition with a cocktail that draws inspiration from the classic Negroni.

It impressed Smeaton’s Brand Ambassador (and cocktail competition aficionado) Alex Williams, who noted that Toor’s cocktail “tastes delicious, shines in the glass, and will offer bars an easily-replicable, relatable, value-added cocktail to offer their patrons returning from lockdown”.

Williams was impressed that Toor’s drink included pineapple, explaining “the pineapple has a long association with hospitality, dating back to when the exotic fruit was so rare and valuable that it was only shared by generous hosts intent on delighting their guests. It is fitting that this emblem of hospitality shines through in Toor’s cocktail”.

Toor explained that the Campari-infused pineapple “complements the fresh orange and cinnamon botanicals” that are individually distilled in Smeaton’s Gin.

Giuliana Vittiglio, Hospitality Action, said, 'As restaurants, bars and hotels slowly begin to re-open we’re working hard to protect the wellbeing of hospitality people, providing financial and emotional support for all those who are going through a hard time.

'With so much uncertainty we’re reliant on all those who fundraise on our behalf and I’d like to offer my heartfelt thanks to Smeaton’s for their marvellous cocktail and on-going assistance”.
