Comptoir chairman reappointed despite founder calling for resignation


Despite the resolution to re-elect Comptoir Group's chairman not passing at the AGM yesterday, today Richard Kleiner has been reappointed.

Richard (pictured), who is a chartered accountant by profession with many years’ experience in corporate finance, public markets and mergers and acquisitions,was voted down by Founder and Creative Director, Tony Kitous.

A battle for control for between Tony and the directors became known earlier in the week. It was revealed he had written to the board calling for Richard and CEO Chaker Hanna to step down.

Comptoir Group owns and operates 27 (5 of which are franchised) Lebanese restaurants based predominately in the UK.

The flagship brand of the group, Comptoir Libanais, is a collection of 20 Middle Eastern restaurants located across London and nationwide, including key cities such as Manchester, Bath, Leeds, Birmingham, Oxford and Exeter.

The group also operates Shawa, serving traditional shawarmas through a counter service model in Westfield and Bluewater shopping centers, Yalla-Yalla with branches near Oxford Circus and in Soho, as well as entertainment venue Kenza, located in Devonshire Square, Liverpool Street, London.

The company has expanded internationally and anticipates more openings planned for 2022 and beyond.
