New Co-op for mid-Glamorgan village

The Co-operative Group has delivered a new food store in Taff’s Well, mid-Glamorgan, following an extensive programme of works to create an extended, purpose-built new store in the village.

The Co-op, which has served the village for over 100 years when the store was part of the Ynysybwl Co-operative Society, is now almost 1,000 sq ft larger, and launched on Friday, 9 December. It opens between 6:30am-10pm daily, and supports 16 local jobs.

The store includes a free ATM provide access to cash in the community; Costa coffee and bakery alongside an enhanced range, choice and focus on fresh, healthy products; meal ideas; everyday essentials; food-to-go; chilled beers and award-winning wines;

There are also ready meals, pizzas and free-from; vegan and plant-based products – including Co-op’s exclusive vegan range, GRO.

Grocery delivery is available via Uber Eats to 'deliver' quick convenience in the community, along with the Click & Collect of groceries available through Co-op’s own online shop.

Co-op’s soft plastic recycle unit is also available in store to enable the community to recycle ‘soft plastics’ – a move which also means that all Co-op’s own food packaging is recyclable. Compostable carrier bags are also available for shoppers who forget their reusable bags.

Hywel Stevens, Co-op's Store Manager, said, “We have had a great response – we are delighted to have had the opportunity to create a new, purpose built store to better service the community. It has a fantastic look and feel, and we are really looking forward to welcoming the community into their new-look Co-op.

'The store has a proud past stretching back over 100 years, and now an exciting future - our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and, we have worked to develop the range, choice, products and added services to create a really compelling offer to serve the community, conveniently.”

The new village store will have customer car parking developed in the new year.
