SCOTMID ANNOUNCES NEW CHARITY PARTNERSHIP WITH RNLI AND INVITES CUSTOMERS ACROSS SCOTLAND TO GET ON BOARD

Scotmid has unveiled an exciting new charitable collaboration with the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) and is urging customers, members, and colleagues to unite and seize the chance to contribute to their fundraising endeavours.

The proceeds will go towards acquiring a new Atlantic 85 lifeboat for the RNLI. This vessel will serve as a vital component of the relief fleet, providing crucial assistance in rescue operations when other vessels are undergoing essential repairs or maintenance. It's a partnership that aims to bolster the RNLI's capacity to save lives at sea.

Jill Hepburn, Head of Region for the RNLI in Scotland, said: “We are very excited to be working with Scotmid, which has an incredible reputation for both fundraising and raising awareness for their charity partners. This partnership will reach into the very hearts of our communities and help us to raise awareness of water safety and the incredible work carried out by our dedicated volunteers. Over 90% of our rescues take place less than one mile from shore, meaning the Atlantic 85 is credited with saving countless lives each year. As part of our relief fleet, the Scotmid lifeboat will have a lifesaving impact on numerous communities in Scotland – a tribute fitting to such an outstanding organisation.”

The Atlantic 85 stands as one of the swiftest vessels within the RNLI's fleet. With the capability to accommodate four crew members along with essential medical and rescue gear, it plays a crucial role in critical situations. What sets it apart is its additional capacity to transport multiple individuals, rendering it well-suited for a variety of open water emergencies. This boat is a vital asset in the RNLI's lifesaving operations.

John Brodie, Chief Executive at Scotmid, said: 'The alignment of the RNLI's values with our own, which centre around serving our communities and enhancing lives, makes us perfect partners. As we eagerly embark on the year ahead, our colleagues are already ‘on board’ and enthusiastically charting out fundraising plans!'

Dedicated volunteer lifeboat crews offer a round-the-clock rescue service, while seasonal lifeguards safeguard people on bustling beaches. Since its establishment in 1824, RNLI crews and lifeguards have heroically saved more than 142,700 lives.

In the year 2022 alone, lifeboats were launched 9,312 times, resulting in the rescue of 389 lives. The RNLI maintains 238 lifeboat stations along the coastlines of the UK and Ireland, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring safety at sea.
