Bolton Council has approved plans from Bluemantle for the £260m redevelopment of the 180-acre Horwich Loco site and up to 1,550 jobs. It is one of the largest ever regeneration schemes proposed in the north of England.
The Horwich Vision scheme will deliver a mix of uses including up to 1,700 new homes, employment uses, new local facilities including shops, community and health facilities and major areas of public open space and supporting infrastructure.
Developer Harworth Estates has already agreed to sell the first site to Aldi, the supermarket group, for its new 450,000 sq ft regional distribution hub.
