Michelin-starred Australian restaurant announces pop up at Carousel London

Chef Rishi Naleendra, of Michelin-starred Cheek by Jowl, is bringing his flavoursome modern Australian food from Singapore to London as a guest chef at Carousel restaurant for a fortnight-long residency from 12 to 23 June.

Cheek by Jowl opened its doors in February 2016 with a menu that showcases modern Australian cuisine that is built upon a seamless marriage of creative yet honest food. At Carousel, Naleendra will be presenting some of his signatures from Cheek by Jowl and dishes that he will be creating using seasonal British ingredients especially for this pop-up.

Opened in early 2016 and awarded a Michelin star just eighteen months later, Cheek by Jowl (a reference to the close working relationship of husband and wife team, Rishi Naleendra and Manuela Toniolo) is a Modern Australian restaurant located in a charming shophouse at Singapore’s Telok Ayer CBD.

Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Rishi moved to Australia to study architecture but fell in love with culinary when he worked as a busboy in a café during his free time. He then made the career switch and has since worked at some of the most renowned restaurants in Melbourne and Sydney such as, Taxi Dining Room, Tetsuya’s and Yellow by Brent Savage.

Now with a space to call their own, the couple hopes that guests will enjoy an unforgettable dining experience from Rishi’s creative and tasty plates accompanied with Manuela’s pairings of organic and biodynamic wines.
