SE Bakery to open first perm site in East Dulwich

This month, a brand new cafe-bakery is coming to East Dulwich, in South East London. The team behind South East Cakery are opening the doors to their first permanent location in Dulwich, just minutes away from their HQ.

Well known to London’s street food markets, including Street Feast and Kerb, South East Cakery’s owners Maria Mannoukas and Alex Ridley met as DJ’s, hosting club nights in London’s bars and clubs.

The pair started the business in 2014 driven by a passion for baking, parties and hip hop. And Air Max. They fuse classic flavours with bold colours and explosive decoration, baking for stars such as Katy B and Lily Allen.

Having put in the work across many of the capital’s street food markets, the team is now returning to their local neighbourhood to open their first cafe-bakery, bringing their bakes to a permanent site for the first time.

Their street food staple, Brownie Bars will be available in a variety of flavours, including salted caramel, honeycomb and peanut butter - all deliciously gooey in the centre. Resident Cakes on rotation will feature banoffee and carrot cake among others.

In addition, the team will be offering their own savoury menu of brunch and lunch favourites, including sandwiches, salads and quiches.

They will be working with suppliers including fellow South East London based businesses Cocotte and The Snapery, as well as Climpson & Sons, Good & Proper Tea, The Estate Dairy, Square Root Soda and Daily Dose Juices.

The site is a cosy space in the back streets of East Dulwich. Wooden tables and vintage dining chairs fill the bright, airy interiors and the day’s freshly baked goods fill a large counter top. A colourful terrace provides outside seating and a sun trap for visitors who want to enjoy their sweet tooth al fresco.
