Historic Derbyshire inn receives £650k revamp

The Devonshire Arms in Hartington, Buxton, has reopened following a transformational, £620k investment by independent pub owner, Punch, with multiple operator, Chris Hannon’s Coastal & Country Inns as new landlord.

The major renovation has transformed the Grade II-listed building to create a more open and inviting place for guests to enjoy. The work included a full external and internal refurbishment, relocating the bathroom facilities to the upper floor to create more space in the main bar area downstairs.

The inn's three guest bedrooms have also been beautifully refurbished. The en-suite, bedrooms are now available for visitors to enjoy all year round.

Works also included a complete overhaul of the pubs garden space. Removing disused outbuildings and replacing them with wood framed, covered seating booths and a giant chess board.

A feature has also been made of the enormous Ash Tree which sits in the centre of the garden. New fixed seating surrounding the trunk and festoon lighting above has created an idyllic setting for customers to enjoy.

Punch managing director, Andy Spencer said ‘’The Devonshire is one of our biggest investments to date, and we are incredibly pleased with the new look created. Matching this fantastic pub with our new Publican Chris, who brings a wealth of experience and expertise, will ensure the pub’s long-term success within the community.’’

The Devonshire is the fifth pub for experienced, multiple operator, Chris Hannon, and his first venture with Punch. Hannon and his team, led by Commercial Director Karen Boyle, have some exciting plans for the pub.

Hannon said, ‘’We are really pleased to be at The Devonshire, the pub and rooms look fantastic. Together with Karen and the team we are really looking forward to putting The Devonshire back on the map. Creating a real destination, welcoming the local community and visitors alike to enjoy their time with us all year round.’’

Punch owns and operates 1300 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales and is investing £32m in its pub estate in the next year with the right Publicans running their pubs.
