Greens Retail to go national with £200m major expansion deal with Nisa

Greens Retail is set to take the company national, as it signs a five-year deal with Nisa worth up to £200m during the term.

Currently operating 16 stores in Scotland which have now surpassed £25m of annualised sales, entrepreneur Harris Aslam has committed to open 20+ new stores spanning across Scotland and also marking business’ growth into England.

Stores operate under the Greens Fascia in partnership with Nisa. Already employing 300 colleagues, these expansion plans will take the total head count to 650+ including the creation of new jobs, giving a boost to the local areas and communities near Greens’ stores.

Greens Retail run stores varying in size from c. 2,000 sq ft to 6,000 sq ft and collaborate with a number of different partners to bring the very best in-store customer experience including in-store butchery and bakery counters, Costa Express and Skwishee concessions.

The ambition is for Greens to not just continue to deliver the pinnacle in convenience retailing, but also create stores into destinations by providing customers with numerous points of difference to encourage them to shop at Greens.

Harris Aslam, Managing Director of Greens Retail, commented, “We’ve been working tirelessly to expand our portfolio and as we continue to grow at a tremendous pace, our overall aim is to innovate and redefine convenience retailing.

“We really want to continue to push the boundaries of retail innovation to ensure each and every one of our stores is unique to the missions and needs of its shoppers.

“Working with Nisa allows us to do this, as well as being able to offer the strongest own-brand range, which is a huge success for us at Greens. This renewed agreement allows us to continue investing in new and existing stores whilst maximising profitability and achieving a long-term commitment and certainty.”

Victoria Lockie, Head of Retail at Nisa, added, “At Nisa we’re passionate about being the partner of choice for retailers and wholesalers, driving mutual success and benefits.

'It’s been an absolutely pleasure working with Harris and the team since Greens’ conception and I’m proud to have watched them elevate their business and stand out from competitors in this tough market. We’re looking forward to seeing their big plans to come to life and are delighted they continue to choose Nisa to come on this journey with.”

The Fife based family-run business is built on four core values which will help shape its future growth: people, place, product and planet, and prides itself on creating a unique shopping experience for their shoppers.

With more than 40 years’ experience, Nisa offers a flexible and unique partnership for each retailer it works with, providing the option to operate under a symbol fascia – Nisa Local, Nisa Express or Nisa Extra – or dual -branded, whereby a Nisa partner can maintain their own local identity while also benefiting from the strength of the Nisa brand.

Its flexible model provides retailers with an unbeatable breadth of range of more than 13,000 SKUs, as well as access to more than 2,400 Co-op own brand products including its Co-op Core Essentials and Honest Value range, providing a recognised, quality brand for shoppers and good margins for retailers.
