ISS UK appointed catering provider for Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust
Starting on Thursday, February 8th 2024, the recently awarded five-year contract is a direct response to input from patients and staff. Additionally, this initiative is set to generate 50 new jobs within the county while enhancing the catering service for both staff and inpatients.

ISS will be hiring 50 food hosts, a new role at KMPT, who will be responsible for serving food and assisting patients with placing orders and meal planning on the Trust's wards in Margate, Canterbury, Maidstone, and Dartford.

New managing director for leading Scottish care provider
Leading Scottish care provider, Meallmore Ltd, has announced its new senior team, as Cillian Hennessey takes over as managing director.

Cillian takes over the top job from Gerry Hennessey, who has retired from his role after 35 years. Gerry and his brother Aidan were founding directors when Meallmore was established in 1987. The company has grown steadily and has successfully retained its original family business values. Gerry will remain as chairman for Meallmore, while Cillian takes over the running of operations.

Cillian joined the family business in 2010 as area manager after working as an investment surveyor.

Boutique Care snaps up West Sussex care home development scheme
A 68-bed care home development scheme in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, from by market-leading developer, Frontier Estates, has been sold to family-run care provider, Boutique Care.

The Burgess Hill schem will join the group's three exceptional care homes in Newmarket, Shepperton, and Broadstairs.

The site extends to 1.57 acres and is located to the south of Kingsway in the popular West Sussex town of Burgess Hill. The proposed scheme comprises a 68-bed care home over three-storey accommodation.

Anchor acquires Halcyon Care Homes
Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of care and housing for older people, has completed its deal to acquire the entire share capital of Halcyon Care Homes.

The 11 purpose-built residential care homes, one of which is currently in development, are located in the East Midlands and the South of England - and brings the total number of care homes operated by Anchor to 125.

The acquisition is a key part of Anchor’s Business Plan to have more and better homes where people love living in later life.

Anchor to expand to 127 care homes with two new sites
Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of care and housing for older people, announces further expansion of its care home portfolio.

Anchor has exchanged contracts to expand further its care home business - with the acquisition from Hadrian Healthcare of two new freehold residential care homes in Yorkshire.

The two exceptionally high-quality, purpose-built homes in Skipton and Roundhay, Leeds, are currently under construction and are due to become operational in April 2023 and June 2024 respectively.

Family-run Stonehaven Care Group, one of the largest care home operators in Devon, has acquired Woodhayes nursing home in Exeter.

Woodhayes is a reputable nursing home set in a Grade II Listed, Victorian property, formed from three linked and extended buildings.

Cedar Care Homes snaps up Wiltshire site
Bristol-based group, Cedar Care Homes has acquired Hill House Care Home near Malmesbury in Wiltshire through Christie & Co, bringing the portfolio to 16 sites.

When the previous owners purchased Hill House Care Home via Christie & Co in 2008, it was trading as a boutique residential care home registered for 19, operating from a beautiful nineteenth-century property.

The pair have since obtained planning for a state-of-the-art, extension and developed a 42-bed purpose-built wing, which sits alongside the original period property on over 11 acres of beautiful grounds.

Four Seasons Health Care Group to sell 111 care homes
Four Seasons Health Care Group has instructed Christie & Co to sell a portfolio of 111 freehold care homes located across England, Scotland and Jersey, all trading under either the Four Seasons Health Care Group or Brighterkind brands.

With a total of 6,054 bedrooms, this portfolio is well specified, with the majority of homes comprising over 40 spacious bedrooms, 80% of which have en-suite provision.

A significant proportion of the homes for sale are purpose-built or have purpose-built extensions.

Residential homes make up 70% of the stock vs. 30% residential. The UK care home market is highly fragmented. There are roughly 5,500 different care operators in the UK. 84% of care homes are privately run, a slight increase from the 82% in 2015. 13% are run by charities, such as MHA and 3% by local councils. Despite the fragmentation there are 5 providers (largely Private Equity owned) that own a significant share of the market. Meallmore announces 66 new roles as part of Kickstart Scheme
Meallmore Ltd has announced 66 new positions within the company as part of the Kickstart Scheme.

In a bid to help young people into work, the care home provider has announced the positions are open for 24 out of their 26 homes across Scotland.

The successful applicants will work for six months on a fixed term contract for a maximum of 25 hours per week. During this time the new employees will have the opportunity to work across catering, hospitality, administration and care.

The Kickstart Scheme is open to people aged 16-24 who are currently claiming Universal Credit.

Barchester Healthcare snaps up Surrey care home development site
Care home giant, Barchester Healthcare has acquired a site formerly occupied by The Old Hall care home in Send, Surrey, via Christie & Co, for an undisclosed sum.

The Old Hall care home was previously owned by The Geoghegan Group, which purchased it as a trading care home registered for 39 service users through Christie & Co in 1997.

The company obtained planning permission to demolish the property and build a luxury care home for 60 service users. In March 2021, the business ceased trading and the site was demolished.

Scottish care home group sold for £40m
Kingdom Homes, a portfolio of 12 care homes in Fife, Scotland, has been sold through Christie & Co.

The portfolio was sold for £37.5m, with a potential deferred payment of up to £2.5m subject to the future performance of the homes.

The 12 Fife-based homes, which comprise 480 beds, were previously owned by Colin and Margaret Smart who made the decision to sell in order to retire from the care industry and focus on their hotel business.

Ipswich care home secures fund to expand to become £25m village
Care operator, Mohammed Maqsud Khan of Westerfield House, a well-established care home in Ipswich, has been successfully refinanced via Christie Finance to expand to become a £25m village.

Since acquiring the property in 2011, the now Westerfield House has been painstakingly and sympathetically developed by Mohammed Maqsud Khan (known as Mac) and his team to become an impressive care facility, which provides residential care and assisted living services to its local community.
