Waka reveals September opening date & more dishes


Waka, the new grab-and-go brand bringing Nikkei - the vibrant fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine - to the City of London, has just confirmed that it will open at 39a Eastcheap on Thursday 7 September.

To accompany the news of their opening date, Waka has released artist’s impressions of its two floors, revealing a beautiful interior featuring the neutral tones and clean lines of Japanese minimalism accented with bright Peruvian patterns, textiles and motifs. Prominent among these is Waka’s hummingbird mascot, one of the famous Nazca Lines - mysterious formations south of Lima whose origins have never definitively been explained.

Waka has also shared further details of its ‘Nikkei Go Food’ menu and extremely competitive pricing, highlights of which are:

• Ceviches, including seabass and prawn, and Tiraditos – thinly-sliced raw fish – including salmon and yellowtail, served with freshly-made citrus sauces
• Hot Bowls, among them Salmon anticucho with Peruvian purple potato and Chicken katsu curry
• Tataki of Truffled tuna or Beef with queso andino
• Cold bowls such as Tofu rice and Waka chirashi
• A wide variety of sushi, sashimi, nigiri and dumplings
• Sides for moreish Cancha corn, soups including Peruvian Sopa de Pollo and salads such as Tofu with sunomono or Eel & avocado

The full menu will be available to grab-and-go or enjoyed in Waka’s 60-seat basement dining room.
