Co-op set to open £600k store in Stockport

The Co-op serves up its newest store this week in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport with a food store opening in Turves Road following a £600k investment.

The community retailer is relocating to its new, larger store - creating five new jobs - on Wednesday, 7 November.

The new-look store includes a Costa coffee dispenser, hot food and an enhanced in-store bakery, alongside an increased focus on fresh, healthy foods, chilled produce, food-to-go, meal ideas, award winning wines and, essentials.

The store also brings a funding boost for local causes through the Co-op’s Membership scheme – Members receive 5% reward when they swipe their Membership card when buying own brand products, with the Co-op donating a further 1% to local causes.

The store also gives students, holding the NUS extra card, a 10% discount off their groceries to support them during their studies.

A preview evening takes place on Tuesday, 6 November, between 6pm – 8pm where members of the community can meet the store team, see the new-look store and find out more about the benefits of Co-op Membership.

Maria Pervaiz, Store Manager, said, “We are delighted to have been able to make such a significant investment in Cheadle Hulme, we have received a great response and are looking forward to welcoming Members and customers into their new-look food store – we are proud to be part of the community, and are committed to ensuring the store is a local hub, a real asset locally.”

Jo Didsbury, Area Manager for the Co-op, said, “The Co-op is investing in products, people, prices, stores and communities. The new store will enable the Co-op to better serve the community, and support its work to get closer to the needs of members and customers – connecting communities and bringing people together.

'We want customers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op. And, that we are also giving back to the community. Our members make a difference locally, simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us they are raising much needed funding for organisations in the area who contribute to improving local life.”
