US Open and Olympic tennis champion Andy Murray has acquired the 14-bedroom Cromlix House Hotel in Scotland and has now announced plans to transform the property into a ‘leading luxury hotel’.
The Victorian hotel is set is 50 acres and located close to Murray’s home town of Dunblane. It is now closed for a full refurbishment and will re-open next spring, in time for the 2014 Ryder Cup which is being held not far from the hotel at Gleneagles.
Murray said he is looking forward to building a successful business within the hotel and securing the future of it, following its closure a year ago.
The hotel is to be managed by Inverlochy Castle Management International (ICMI), who already manage eight other independent properties, including Inverlochy Castle, near Fort William, Greywalls Hotel in Gullane and the Atholl, in Edinburgh.
Chef Albert Roux's involvement with ICMI will also continue with Cromlix House where he will open a Chez Roux restaurant offering fine dining using locally sourced produce.
Cromlix House was run by the Eden family for 30 years before it was bought by Murray. As well as 14 bedrooms, the hotel boosts a chapel, reception hall, two drawing rooms, conservatory, dining room, library and meeting rooms.
