Award-winning Clapham pub to launch street food star residency

On Monday 3 September, renowned Clapham craft beer pub The King & Co will launch a new two month kitchen residency by street food star, Up In My Grill.

Running six days per week until Saturday 3 November, the extended pop-up will showcase the trader’s signature rare-breed Yorkshire beef burgers alongside an array of sharing plates.

The King & Co turns four next month, and will celebrate with a weekend of special events from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 September, including a birthday beer festival featuring exclusive collaboration brews with some of South London’s best breweries.

Visitors to this Up In My Grill’s residency will be able to enjoy new sharers and snacks such as Crispy Lamb Belly with green sauce, Aubergine Parm 'Mess' with grilled bread, and Short Rib with sweet pickles and steak sauce, as well as their popular Beef Shin Nuggets with shallot mayo.

The trademark burger patties will be minced daily from the same high-quality rare-breed Yorkshire beef as their infamous street-food steaks, with toppings ranging from a Classic Cheeseburger to the Bacon Chilli Burger that became a favourite at their takeover of Street Feast’s Slider Bar, plus a regularly-changing Guest Burger.

Sides like Skin-on Fries and Charred Greens with garlic and ‘nduja will also be available, and those who prefer a vegan bun can tuck into the satisfying combination of Crispy Aubergine with marinara sauce, house pickles and lettuce.

Voted 'Most Loved Local Bar or Pub' in the Clapham neighbourhood in Time Out’s Love London Awards 2018, The King & Co will toast its fourth birthday next month with three days of celebrations from 14 to 16 September.

The party will start on the Friday with a pop-up cocktail bar by One Point Eight, and the team’s weekend-long beer festival promises an unmissable tap list of limited edition kegs created in collaboration with top craft producers including Brick Brewery, London Beer Lab, Bullfinch and Villages Brewery, as well as a few of their very own homebrews.

Up In My Grill will cook up a grass-fed British beef BBQ on the outdoor deck all day on Saturday, with live acoustic music that afternoon followed by a late-night DJ set.

The festivities will draw to a close on Sunday evening with a Mega Birthday Bingo game compèred by beloved quizmaster Tommy McTrivia, with special prizes and a cash pot to be won.

Every Sunday (from 16 September onwards), chefs from sibling independent boozer The Elm Park Tavern in Brixton will take back The King & Co’s kitchen to serve a host of top-notch Sunday Roasts for both lunch and dinner.

Pub guests can choose from options like slow-cooked pork collar with crackling, 28-day aged rump of beef, and whole lemon and thyme chicken for two people to share, all accompanied of course by proper roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables and lashings of homemade gravy.
