NewRiver Retail plans £200m Basingstoke leisure park with 2,400 jobs

NewRiver Retail has unveiled plans for a £200m leisure park at a 60-acre site in Basingstoke in 2018, which could create 2,400 jobs.

The plans will transform an ageing leisure park in Hampshire, which is owned by Basingstoke Borough Council, into a top nationwide destination for sporting and recreation, almost doubling the size of the current park.

The complex will be the largest of its kind in the country and will boost high adrenaline and water-based facilities already there with proposals for a new aquadrome and velodrome alongside a shopping village, lakes and nature areas.

The Council entered an exclusivity agreement with the developer in February, to encourage major new investment to upgrade facilities there which include a swimming pool, a sports centre, ice rink and events arena.

NewRiver Retail wants to put in a planning application at the end of next year with the aim of starting work in 2018.
