EG Group names Mark Segal as new Chief Financial Officer
EG Group, the operator of a global network of convenience stores, foodservice outlets, and fuel stations, has announced the immediate appointment of Mark Segal as Group Chief Financial Officer.

Segal brings 35 years of experience in finance and operations to the role and will report directly to Chief Executive Russ Colaco.

In his previous role, Segal spent 20 years at Spin Master Corp., where he played a key part in the company’s IPO in 2015.

Chartwells secures six-year contract renewal with Berkhamsted Schools Group
Education catering specialist Chartwells has renewed its partnership with independent education provider Berkhamsted Schools Group.

Originally launched in 2019, the contract was re-awarded through a pre-emptive tender process. Under the renewed six-year agreement, the Compass Group-owned caterer will continue delivering meals to more than 2,700 pupils and staff across sites in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

McVitie’s parent company Pladis to invest £68 million in carbon-reducing production
McVitie’s parent company, Pladis, has announced a £68 million investment programme to upgrade its UK manufacturing operations.

The London-based company, whose portfolio includes brands such as Carr’s, Godiva, Jacob’s, and McVitie’s, described the investment as a “vote of confidence in UK plc” as it aims to expand capacity, boost productivity, and enhance sustainability across key sites.

The bulk of the investment will be directed to the North West of England, including £21 million for the Stockport factory — home of the McVitie’s Jaffa Cake.

Sticks’n’Sushi to launch first Scottish location
Danish restaurant group Sticks’n’Sushi is preparing to launch its first location in Scotland this November, opening a 177-seat dining room and bar on George Square in Glasgow.

The space has been designed by OEO Studio, the Danish design company known for creating Noma Kyoto.

With this new opening, Sticks’n’Sushi will have a total of 31 restaurants across Denmark, the UK, and Germany.

Center Parcs first Scottish resort poised to boost local tourism industry
Center Parcs has announced that its first holiday village in Scotland has the potential to “transform” tourism in the Scottish Borders region. The company has submitted plans to develop a 700-lodge resort on a 1,000-acre site located just north of Hawick, along the A7.

The proposed development, valued at approximately £400 million, was initially announced in November of last year and has now been officially submitted to the local council for approval.

Deep Blue Restaurants, a leader in the fish and chip sector, has sold nine of its eponymous locations to focus on growing the Harry Ramsden’s brand.

The group is the UK’s largest operator of fish and chip restaurants and takeaways, owning brands such as Deep Blue and Fish & Chips @ 149.

The company began divesting its eponymous sites last year to concentrate on Harry Ramsden’s, the 96-year-old fish and chip chain it acquired from Boparan Restaurant Group in 2019.
