Tortilla ends delivery partnership with Deliveroo

Tortilla has ended its delivery partnership with Deliveroo as part of a review of its strategy.

The burrito brand's Mexican dishes are no longer available for ordering on the Deliveroo app. However, they can still be found on Uber Eats and Just Eat platforms.

Tortilla said that collaborating with three delivery partners had contributed to increased sales and brand visibility, but commission charges from delivery services had posed challenges to margin performance.

To mitigate this, the group sought for a new delivery structure and to strengthen the relationship between fewer partners,' Tortilla said in an announcement.

Tortilla reported delivering 1.5 million main dishes through its three delivery partners in 2023, with the chicken pibil burrito emerging as its most popular offering.

The decision to end its partnership with Deliveroo is part of a broader management strategy aimed at enhancing profitability. As part of this strategy, Tortilla plans to open four new restaurants in UK travel hubs through a partnership with SSP this year.

Tortilla is the second major restaurant brand to publicly end its partnership with Deliveroo in the last six months. In October, KFC split with the delivery giant after failing to reach an agreement on commission rates

A Deliveroo spokesperson said: 'Deliveroo's focus is providing great selection and value on our platform and we are proud to partner with roughly 60,000 of the best restaurants in the UK and Ireland.

'With thousands of incredible Mexican restaurants on Deliveroo, including many that are only available on our platform, there's a huge selection for people to choose from.'
