North Yorks inn gets additional £90k Thwaites investment

The Lion in Settle, North Yorkshire, has a new look after Thwaites invested around £90k in transforming the restaurant, and has been renamed The Golden Lion.

As part of the refurbishment, the coffee and cake area has been opened up, new furniture has been introduced which is modern and designed with families and groups in mind, and the restaurant has been brightened with new colours and decoration.

This latest revamp comes hot on the heels of a bedroom refurbishment project, which has updated all 14 guest rooms.

General Manager Peter Barton said, “The whole property has had a refresh over the past 18 months and this is the final piece of the jigsaw for us.

“We’ve always been really proud of our heritage as anyone who has visited will know from the memorabilia we have inside, so it seemed like an opportune moment to revisit our name.

“The Golden Lion is one of the oldest pubs in the area, developing a place in the heart of our town during the golden age for coaching inns. Photos inside the inn show how the place used to look, so we’ve never forgotten our roots.

“Feedback about the changes we’ve made has been really positive and it’s been lovely to see the reaction of our regular guests and of new visitors who are stopping by the first time.”
