Greater Manchester pub reopens after £250k revamp

The Rising Moon pub, situated in the heart of Matley, Greater Manchester, has reopened following a seven-week £250k makeover from Robinsons Brewery and licensees, Lee, Joe and Andrea Mallinder.

Purchased by Robinsons in 1920, the Rising Moon has been a popular community local for nearly a century and was ready for a complete overhaul.

The modern country pub has been dramatically transformed inside and out, creating more space, comfort and broadening the pub’s appeal to customers.

Lee Mallinder said, “Trade has been excellent since reopening. Last week we had 2,000 covers, and as well as retaining our loyal customers from before the refurbishment, we have attracted a new range of clientele too.

'The pub has been stylishly modernised and just looks great. The Rising Moon has been given a new lease of life and I am very grateful to Robinsons for their hard work and help throughout the process.”

Internally, the pub has been opened up with walls removed and a new entrance lobby and main entrance to the side of the pub, allowing for an improved customer flow. Reclaimed solid oak parquet herringbone flooring now blankets the pub, and a new colour scheme of pastel greens and greys has been introduced, together with feature floral wallpaper, to retain the country feel and create a relaxed atmosphere to drink, dine and socialise.

The bar, newly built with honey-oak wood, now has greater prominence as you enter the pub, proudly displaying the pub’s exciting new drinks range, including a range of exclusive new wines and gins.

Around the bar, tanned brown deep buttoned leather seating radiates comfort and style and provides the perfect spot to try some delicious pub food from the new menu, featuring tasty classics such as a hearty Sunday lunch, beer battered fish, chips and mushy peas, or succulent Tandoori lamb chops.

Externally, Robinsons branded signage and a colourful planting scheme now adorns the historic pub. An increased sized beer garden also offers a picture-perfect setting for afternoon drinks and snacks in the sun, or a chilled evening tipple. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of parking.

Alan Chapman, Business Development Manager at Robinsons Brewery, said, “The Rising Moon is based in a great location and has always been a popular local. It was in need of a substantial investment to bring it back to life. We have refurbished the toilets and made some structural changes throughout the premises to improve customer flow.

'The pubs beer garden has also been redesigned, with an enhanced outdoor drinking area for those warm summer evenings alongside a new attractive signage scheme. Be sure to give it a visit!”
