Following an extensive restoration project, Crystal Palace’s favourite neighbourhood pub, Westow House, has announced the arrival of 23 boutique bedrooms, located on the upper levels of the three-storey site.
The 19th century landmark, which sits at the corner of the Crystal Palace triangle, embarks on a new era, reopening the top levels that were previously destroyed into a boutique hotel housing bedrooms, decorated tastefully and paying homage to the venue’s historic roots.
Parent company, Antic, which has revolutionised the London pub scene, breathes new life into celebrated venues, and oversee several properties in the capital including The Red Lion in Leytonstone, Forest Hill’s Sylvan Post, and Balham Bowls Club, with Westow House their biggest site to date.
With a growing demand for overnight accommodation in the area, the much-loved community pub provides a high-quality overnight pitstop for guests to ‘stay a little longer’.
Westow House boasts twenty three bedrooms, including two family suites, three twin bedrooms and eighteen doubles. Distinctively British and seamlessly blending old-school glamour with contemporary additions, every room has been decorated with originality and comfort in mind.
Each room features individual style and character reminiscent of much-loved Antic pub interiors; beautiful wallpapers, quirky artwork, along with vintage and up-cycled furniture together with luxurious fabrics create a relaxing, inviting and cosy atmosphere.
Providing bedrooms which are both stylish and homely, Westow House’s handmade centrepiece beds come fitted with a Voyager mattress where the tension provided by the 1,000 pocket springs offer comfort and support for a great night’s kip.
Staying true to the values and theme of the property, the bedrooms have been filled with a myriad of vintage furniture sourced from Sunbury and Sandown Antiques Market as well as second-hand shops across the capital.
While the decor celebrates the pub’s early years, the rooms are brought into the 21st century with several modern luxuries; think a fitted 43-inch fully-integrated smart LED television for streaming shows via Netflix, paid VOD, terrestrial TV channels, while internet is accessible via a fast fibre WiFi connection, for uninterrupted FaceTime, Skype and online browsing.
Utilising handmade items from local businesses, Westow House takes pride in shining a light on its South London community. All rooms come stocked with high-quality products from the likes of Nespresso and Aromatherapy Associates, while breakfast comprises of baked goods and provisions from bakeries nearby.
The grand function room is another new addition to the property. Set on the first floor of Westow House, the space is flooded with natural light thanks to large bright windows and overlooks the surrounding leafy neighbourhood. Since opening, Westow House has firmly cemented itself as a reliable and friendly spot for a vast selection of beers, home-spun food and epic Sunday roasts. The well-loved boozer serves a seasonally-rotating menu brimming with locally sourced produce and a strong focus on modern British fare.
With dishes changing weekly depending on availability of fresh ingredients, guests can expect classic bites, such as: Welsh black beef burger, topped with smoked Applewood cheddar, caramelised onions, burger sauce, and served with fries; Volden Real Ale battered haddock, chunky chips, mushy peas, and tartare; and root vegetable tart, cheddar and herb mash, and veg gravy.
Knocking up Sunday roasts that will make mum proud, guests can choose between half roast chicken, pork belly, beef sirloin, or a butternut squash nut roast, all served with thyme roasted potatoes, carrots and parsnips, braised red cabbage, Yorkshire pudding, and red wine gravy.
