Historic Cornish pub reopens after £260k transformation

The Turks Head pub in Penzance has reopened following an epic £260k investment by independent pub operators Punch Pubs & Co, with Management Partner Neeka Goodwin at the helm.

Dating back to the 12th century and rumoured to have once held the Magna Carta, Punch has recognised all the pub’s historical importance through a stunning refurbishment that provides locals and tourists alike with a rich and atmospheric bar and dining experience at the heart of Chapel Street.

Inside, guests will be pleased to find the quirky, authentic features of the pub, including the beautiful wooden bar, fireplaces, and secret pirate doors that have been lovingly restored to give an opulent, realistic glimpse into the pub’s past.

Works have also heavily enhanced the pub’s dining experience, with guests now able to enjoy the delights and delicacies of a new menu that features an array of quintessential British classics including a warming and filling fish pie, as well as a finely finished and succulent lamb short rib, that are all perfectly savoured in one of the pub’s many secluded snug spots.

Management Partner Neeka recently returned to the area after briefly living abroad. For Neeka, the move and opportunity at The Turks Head have come at the perfect time for her to realise her dream of living in Cornwall, doing what she loves, and embracing close-knit community life.

She shared, “I feel so lucky to be relaunching such a unique pub. I’ve had nothing but care and support from all the locals and businesses; it’s just amazing here. The investment has done wonders, creating a stunning pub that is relaxed and truly authentic. And, there is more to come!

'I urge all our guests to venture into the secret garden to the rear of the pub, it’s a gorgeous, idyllic space to relax in.”

Punch Senior Operations Manager, Rupert Reeves, added, “We’re so proud to have been able to invest in such an amazing pub. It’s been a wonderful project, seeing it being restored and giving it a new lease of life.

'We are sure that the community and visitors to the area will love everything our Management Partner, Neeka and her team have to offer. Her passion for the area and the pub is second to none, making her the perfect person to ensure its future success.”
