Woolley Grange Hotel near Bath shuts temporarily for renovations

Woolley Grange, part of the Luxury Family Hotels collection near Bath, has temporarily closed for a major refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen in early October.

The comprehensive renovation will transform all 25 rooms and suites, along with the hotel’s public spaces—including the restaurant, drawing room, long room, afternoon tea lounge, private dining areas, orangery, spa, swimming pool, and children's facilities—guided by the design vision of StudioJill.

StudioJill, who has previously partnered with the hotel group on projects including Fowey Hall on the Cornish coast, Moonfleet Manor on the Jurassic Coast, and New Park Manor in the New Forest, is leading the redesign.

At Woolley Grange, the refurbishment will highlight the manor house’s Jacobean character through the use of earthy tones, aged oak, and rustic finishes.

The 17th-century property, once home to the Baskerville family in the 1700s, reopened as a hotel in 1989 and gained a reputation for its family-friendly amenities.

Jill Higgins, founder of StudioJill, said: “As a design studio we wanted to create a stronger sense of place, celebrating the inherent charm and natural patina of the building whilst layering in modern crafted pieces, pattern and texture. Our approach unifies the old with new to create a more holistic guest experience, mixing playful details with a relaxed understated sense of luxury.”

The hotel will start a phased reopening from early October.

Room rates at Woolley Grange begin at £250 per night, including breakfast.

Luxury Family Hotels is a collection of five family-owned properties: Fowey Hall, Moonfleet Manor, Woolley Grange, New Park Manor, and The Ickworth near Suffolk, which is scheduled for refurbishment this winter.
